Mrs. Sarah Duncan Hinds

Sarah Duncan Hinds was elected to the Portsmouth School Board on November 4, 2014. Sarah has known no other home than Portsmouth, Virginia. She was born in Portsmouth, went to Portsmouth Public Schools and started her family in Portsmouth. Sarah is a proud mother to a bright and inquisitive son. Sarah often refers to her son’s graduation class of 2029 as her motivation to improve on 21st century learning opportunities in our school division.

Sarah has an undying passion for teaching children and empowering teachers to do what they do best, and that is to teach. As a career and current educator, Sarah hopes to bring a different perspective to the School Board to meet today’s educational needs.

Sarah’s Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in History and Secondary Teaching Endorsement
• Master’s Degree in Education (Curriculum and Instruction)
• Middle School Teacher for 2 years
• Instructional Specialist for 8 years
• Curriculum Coordinator for 2 years

Sarah has a strong belief that with work from all of the city’s leaders, Portsmouth Public Schools can achieve a higher level of success and can be a catalyst for the growth and improvement of our great city.
