At the Dec. 12 meeting of the School Board of the City of Portsmouth, the School Board voted to approve a school calendar with a two-week pre-Labor Day start for the 2025-26 school year. 

Kelly Short-Fuller, a science teacher at Churchland High School, was named the Portsmouth Public Schools (PPS) 2026 Citywide Teacher of the Year. Short-Fuller received the honor at the division’s Teacher of the Year celebration, which was held Tuesday night and highlighted all 22 teachers of the year in PPS. 

The Portsmouth Public Schools Department of Budget and Finance received notification it has earned not just one, but two, national awards for its financial reporting.
